46 years after the Pinochet coup in Chile

The coup led by Commander Augusto Pinochet in 1973 was one of the most relevant events in recent Chilean history. The military dictatorship that lasted 17 years plunged the country into a dark environment and strong repressions against the people. The reformist policy of Salvador Allende (1970-1973) motivated several sectors to plan a coup d'etat and remove him from the presidency.

Chile.- The Chilean Armed Forces - formed by the Navy, the Air Force and the Army - together with the police, planned the military coup that would end with Allende and the leftist government. Days before the coup, Augusto Pinochet - who held the position of commander in chief of the Army - decided to join the coup plan and led the troops in Santiago.
